One of our favorite local housing/service providers, CHAT - Chico Housing Action Team, has been providing permanent supportive housing for people in our community since 2013. The community knows how valuable their work is too - they recently won Best Local Charity in the Chico News and Reviewโ€™s Best of Chico.

They are currently housing 174 people in 62(!) houses who would otherwise likely be homeless.

How have they done this? In most cases, they work with a landlord to rent a home, then they sub-lease to people who otherwise couldn't obtain housing.

But it doesn't end there. Once folks are housed, they continue to provide a variety of supports to ensure they stay housed, including case management and help with everyday needs like food, medicine and home maintenance. Their success rate at getting and keeping people housed has been astonishing.

Now they are raising funds for a new project, Everhart Village.

If you've considered donating to support them, this is a wonderful opportunity to double the impact of your donation.

(If you are seeing this after the 20th, never fear - your donations are still critical to this work!)

In their own words:

"Join Chico Housing Action Team in making a difference in Chico! We're asking for your support for Everhart Village, an innovative shelter project in collaboration with Butte County Behavioral Health (BCBH) and Butte County Department of Employment and Social Services. Everhart Village will provide sleeping cabins and social services for around 20 to 24 clients of BCBH who do not have stable housing. CHAT will oversee the day-to-day operations and CHAT case managers will meet often with the residents to work on housing goals, while BCBH will provide clinician services, care management and assist residents with their mental wellness goals."

If you can afford to help, please consider it. Even if you can't afford to donate, there are many volunteer opportunities and a little of your time can make a big difference.
