Support the Community Fridge

Food insecurity is one of the most devastating things an individual or family can face. 50% of Chico State students reported experiencing low or very low food security. Many working families find themselves running low at the end of the month as well, and more than 1 out of 4 children in our community experience hunger.

This is the second location of the much-beloved community fridge. The last one was removed after neighbors, led by Tim Lynch, petitioned the city to have it removed. (You may be familiar with Lynch from his hyperbolic rants to the Chico ER, like suggesting that voting for progressive council members was a step towards a “thousand years of darkness.” )

This beautiful and necessary community project is under siege again, with the city demanding $1700 for a permit application with no guarantee it will be approved.

There is no excuse for anyone to go hungry in our community, and the city’s cavalier attitude and willingness to comply with NIMBYism make them complicit in this.
