In the words of the Director of the state Department of Water Resources, which actually does control releases from Oroville Dam, “This is just one of many unprecedented impacts we are experiencing in California as a result of our climate-induced drought. California and much of the western part of the United States are experiencing the impacts of accelerated climate change including record-low reservoir levels due to dramatically reduced runoff this spring."
No on the Newsom Recall
The fact that this recall has ties to QAnon, anti-vaxxers and extremist militia groups like the Proud Boys and the Three Percenters should tell you all you need to know…

Whenever we post anything about local climate action, there are always folks who pop in to say things like, "we can't do anything in Chico to change or control the climate." And of course, no, one city can't control the climate.
But there are many steps we can and should take.
August 3rd Chico City Council Recap
Two new yes-men appointed, high-density, low-income housing area rezoned for a new gas station, + more cronyism and cash giveaways,
The City Council Appointees are Dismal and Today’s Agenda is Alarming
We sent a letter to the council this morning and hope you will take a few minutes to review it, and perhaps send one yourself. The council appointees are as terrible as we would have expected from this council, shady no-bid contracts are being awarded to council cronies, City Attorney Ewing is updating the city’s anti-homeless ordinances to try to pull one over on the public(and the judge), and a right-wing Trump associate is being awarded another no-bid contract to provide services to the city. Phew. This is nuts even for Chico of late.
Only One Good Nominee for City Council Appointment
Of the 3 applicants nominated for the at-large City Council seat (make that all nominees for either seat), Bryce Goldstein’s knowledge and vision stand out. Her application and City Council speech were the only ones to outline a concrete plan for Chico’s growth into a sustainable, welcoming community where everybody can afford to live…

Last night, while being interviewed for a possible appointment to the city council, former police Chief O’Brien doubled down, saying he was all for enforcing the city homeless ordinances “as they are,” despite the fact the judge in the case against Chico has at least twice said those ordinances are “illegal as written.”
So it was refreshing to see a more rational perspective from another former Chico Police Chief, Mike Dunbaugh…
